With 3:36 remaining in the second quarter of the boys varsity game, the basketball scoreboard at Fairmont ceased operation. West Columbus was holding a three-point lead at that time. After it was determined the scoreboard could not be repaired, it was suggested a temporary scoreboard be used to finish the contest. West Columbus head coach W. T. Edwards did not agree to the use of the scoreboard so the game was suspended. A time to continue the contest has not been determined.

Edwards said, “I was not comfortable with being unable to see the time and score without making a lot of effort.” He added, “Plus after a delay of 30-40 minutes, I felt like it would be in my team’s best interest to regroup, refocus and continue fresh at a later date.” West Columbus led 24-21 when the game was stopped.

In the girls game, Fairmont led 33-31 midway the third quarter before outscoring the Vikings 24-7 over the final 12 minutes for a 57-38 win. Annela Tiffany led West with 15 points. Raeanna Goodman added nine and Tirana Braddy gathered 10 rebounds. Kiara Page led Fairmont with 27 points and 14 rebounds.

West Columbus won the girls JV tilt 25-19. Fairmont was victorious in JV Boys 51-19.

Whiteville’s boys overcame a nine-point deficit in the final minute of the game to defeat East Columbus 65-62.  Whiteville’s girls took a 53-45 victory. It was the girls first win over the Gators since November 30, 2012.

The East Columbus junior varsity girls won 23-10, The Wolfpack JV Boys claimed a 50-46 win in overtime.

South Columbus led East Bladen 16-14 at halftime of the boys contest. The Stallions outscored the Eagles 36-19 in the second half for a 52-33 win. Shiquan Conyers scored 16 points and Tyrek Long added 10 for South Columbus. East Bladen won the girls game 56-34. Haley Rising scored 11 points for South Columbus.
