Tuesday produced the only upset from a seeding standpoint in the 2018 Three Rivers Basketball Tournament. #6 West Columbus downed #3 Whiteville 39-34. The Viking win wasn’t a shock as the teams had split in the regular season. February 2, on the same court, Whiteville staged a comeback from 16 points down to top West Columbus 64-54 in overtime. West Columbus’ Annela Tiffany’s 22 points and 17 rebounds kept her senior season alive for at least one more game. All signs point to West Columbus needing to win the TRC tourney to secure a playoff berth.

Red Springs Girls doubled up West Bladen 60-30. Taylnn Atkinson scored 21 points and Taya Jones 18 to lead the Red Devils.

The West Columbus Boys used a 26-point fourth quarter to pull away from a stubborn South Robeson squad, winning 71-61. Jake Brownlee led the Vikings with 34 points and 11 rebounds. Dejour Smith and Kevon Lewis addd a dozen points apiece. The Vikings connected on 17 of 22 free throws in the game.

Red Springs Boys placed three players in double figures to edge South Columbus 53-48.

The West Columbus and Red Springs will face each other in boys and girls tournament semifinal action Thursday at East Bladen. The two schools met on back-to-back nights last week. The Red Devil Girls and Vikings Boys each won twice in those matches. Red Springs victories were by double digits. West Columbus wins came down to the wire.
