The defending 2A champion Reidsville Rams used a balanced offensive attack and some key stops on defense to defeat South Columbus 28-0 in third round NCHSAA 2A West playoff action Friday night at Reidsville.
South Columbus ran 64 plays compared to 44 for the Rams, but were outgained 290 to 220 yards. South Columbus was 4 of 8 on fourth down and stopped twice inside the Reidsville 15-yard line. Reidsville scored in every quarter. The first score came on a 1-yard run. The second on a 67-yard touchdown catch and run resulting in a 14-0 halftime advantage. Another 1-yard run moved the lead to 21-0 in the third period. Reidsville’s final score came with 2:37 left in the game for the final margin of 28-0.
Seth Buffkin led the Stallions with 70 yards on 20 rushing attempts. Trequan Bellamy added 63 yards on 18 carries. Robby spencer was 4 of 11 passing for 49 yards and one interception. South Columbus finishes the year with a 12-2 record.
Fellow Three Rivers member, East Bladen, fell 30-13 at home to Southwest Onslow. The Eagles had five turnovers and lost its top running back, Xavier Wooten, to a knee injury on his third carry. East Bladen also finishes play 12-2.
