Whiteville High School’s Brooks Baldwin has been named to the 2018 MaxPreps Small Schools All-American Baseball first team. Baldwin started in four NCHSAA State Baseball Championship series and helped Whiteville win three titles. He capped off his career by winning the 2018 2A NCHSAA Baseball championship Most Valuable Player Award as the Wolfpack defeated Ledford two games to one.
The small schools division is comprised of schools that play in state enrollment divisions that generally have less than 1,000 students. Ledford pitchers Chris Villaman and Logan Whitaker joined Baldwin on the first team. Ryan Weathers of Loretto High in Tennessee was named the MaxPreps Small Schools National Player of the Year.
As a team, Whiteville jumped 20 spots in the final MaxPreps Small Schools Poll to finish third nationally. The Wolfpack were 55thamong ALL high school baseball teams in the nation according to the MaxPreps ranking system.
