WHS responds with 8-3 win in game 2; championship game at 5 p.m.

Whiteville defeated Ledford 8-3 to rebound after a 10-0 loss Friday night in the state 2A championship series. The championship game is at 5 p.m. today (Saturday).

Brooks Baldwin got the win on the mound, and Whiteville bats game alive. Baldwin also had an inside-the-park home run.

Whiteville went up 1-0 in the first and never trailed.

WHS extended the lead to 3-0 in the fourth, but Ledford responded in the bottom of the inning to make it 3-2.

Baldwin then hit his high shot off the right-center wall and rounded the bases for an inside-the-park homer for a 4-2 Wolfpack lead. An exciting play at the plate as Baldwin slid in, just beating the relay throw.

Whiteville cruises to the 8-3 win.
