South Park’s 8-3 win over Wolfpack Optimist was the type of loss that could stay with you for a while.  Hopefully, the Optimist AA players have long baseball careers ahead and can look forward to many more baseball opportunities.

An inning-ending double play after the bases were loaded for South Park in the top of the fourth provided Wolfpack Optimist with the momentum to tie the contest at three-all in the bottom of the fourth frame. A single by Sidney Miller, Briley Tedder’s triple and a grounder by Luke Merritt plated two runs. Tedder’s first inning single had scored Jayston Hunt had reached on a single for Wolfpack Optimist’s first run.

With “Ol Mo” squarely on the side of Wolfpack Optimist, the first two South Park batters were retired in the fifth. But baseball can be a cruel game. The third out was hard to come by. A single, two doubles, a triple and two errors later South Park had scored five unearned runs and taken an 8-3 lead.

Not giving up, Wolfpack Optimist connected for five hits in its final two at bats. However, no runs were recorded resulting in a defeat and the end of its AA state tournament stay.

Briley Tedder tripled and singled for Wolfpack Optimist. Jayston Hunt and Sidney Miller also had two hits. Zavion Ward added a double.
