Back and forth, to and fro went the District 2 Dixie Youth Majors championship match up between Columbus County and Wolfpack Optimist. In the end, Wolfpack Optimist took its second victory in two nights over the County, winning 16-13 to claim the DYB District 2 Majors championship.
Columbus County scored three times in the top of the first, but Whiteville answered with seven runs of its own in the bottom of the frame. After three innings, Columbus County had closed to within one at 8-7 Columbus County completed the comeback with three runs in the fourth to take a 10-8 lead. The Optimist exploded for eight runs in the bottom of the fifth for a 16-10 lead. Columbus County mounted another rally, but fell three runs short.
Both teams have qualified for the DYB Majors state tourney in Leland beginning July 15.
