Wolfpack Optimist complete comeback for District 2 AAA title

Wolfpack Optimist won five consecutive elimination games to claim the 2018 NCDYB District 2 AAA title. The final two wins came over Columbus County, the team that handed Optimist a 13-12 loss in the opening round. After holding on for a 12-10 win Thursday night against Columbus County, Wolfpack Optimist took an early 2-0 lead and added six runs in  the fourth and fifth innings for an 8-0 victory.

Jake Odham had three hits, including two doubles, to lead the Optimist attack. Brycen Edwards and Layton McLean contributed two hits each. Edwards had a double and McLean drove in two runs. Jayden Todd drove in two runs, while Corey Faison and Cody Rice added run-scoring base hits. Caden Cagood and Gabriel Priest also had hits for Optimist.

Gabriel Priest and Brycen Edwards each pitched three innings for Wolfpack Optimist. They combined to strike out three and walk two Columbus County batters. Nick Rye, Jahan Lesane Powell and Jonah Webb each singled for Columbus County.
