Patrick Louis Mills, Jr., 10, outlasted all runners to win Thursday’s Whiteville Turkey Trot. He finished the 5K in 26 minutes.  He bet his father that if he won the race, his father would give him $50 to donate to a charity of his choice. His grandfather, Rick Edwards, matched it. The young runner picked Neuse River Golden Retriever Rescue because his grandmother Abbie Edwards loved golden retrievers. About 60 people participated in the 5K and two-mile walk from Vineland Station to the courthouse. At right is event organizer Carlton Williamson.
