Warriors and Hornets claim middle school gridiron wins

West Columbus 20, South Columbus 14 at SC
West Columbus held on for its third consecutive win.
Shawn Murchison’s long touchdown jaunt put the Warriors on the board late in the first quarter. The two-point try failed, leaving the score at 6–0.
West increased it s lead in the second period. Jahan Lesane Powell stripped the South Columbus running back of the ball and returned it for a touchdown. The two-point try again failed leaving the score at 12–0. South’s Rylan Norris intercepted a pass at the end of the first half to thwart West’s scoring attempt.
Phillip Smith’s rushing touchdown and Kayshawn Bellamy’s two-point conversion pulled the Stallions to within four points at 12–8 in the third quarter. West answered with a Larry Graham Jr. scoring run. Murchison added the two-point try for a 20–8 Warriors lead.
South’s Bellamy scored with 2:45 remaining to make the score 20–14. The conversion attempt was unsuccessful. The Stallions had one more possession after recovering a Warriors fumble with 1:36 left in the game. However, West’s Ethan Matheson recovered a South Columbus fumble and the Warriors were able to run out the final seconds to secure the win.
