The final tally in the Facebook poll was Clemson 135, LSU 68. A positive from the game was the outcome was decisive so America is not arguing about officiating affecting the outcome. Yes, there was the one offensive pass interference call when Clemson was down 17 that cost the Tigers a touchdown, but even the announcers saw some merit as it appeared both players pulled on the other’s jersey. What is and isn’t PI is almost always going to be arguable.

I don’t believe any doubt should linger that LSU is the top team in college football this past season. Depending on who replaces Joe Burrow at quarterback and if passing game coordinator Joe Brady remains at LSU the Bengal Tigers could be set for a run at the top of the heap. Still, remaining undefeated while navigating through the SEC West schedule will be difficult.

Guess who is already topping the polls for the upcoming 2020 football season? That’s right, the Clemson Tigers. With Trevor Lawrence returning and likely with a desire to prove his performance in the championship game was a fluke, the Tigers will reload with lots of firepower. The Clemson Tigers toughest opponent on the schedule is Nov. 7 at Notre Dame. I really don’t see Akron, The Citadel or any ACC opponent upsetting Clemson’s apple cart. Clemson does not play UNC (showing up ranked 22nd in some early polls) in 2020 unless they would meet in the ACC Championship game.

Only time will tell. Until then Roll Tide!

Okay college football fanatics and even those of you with just a passing interest. The championship of NCAA FCS football is Monday night. The Tigers of LSU take on the Tigers of Clemson. The game will be played in the New Orleans Super Dome. Ironically, the home stadium for both teams is called Death Valley.

Mid-Story Ad 300x200

#1 LSU features Heisman Trophy winning quarterback Joe Burrow. Burrow leads one of the most prolific offenses in college football history. #3 Clemson is solid defensively and no slouch on offense with sophomore quarterback Trevor Lawrence, running back Travis Etienne and a passel of NFL caliber receivers.

Both teams are undefeated. LSU has played the tougher overall schedule. However, after a close win over UNC, Clemson proceeded to pulverize the remainder of its opponents. Clemson had to defeat a much tougher opponent, Ohio State, to reach the championship game.

Clemson is riding a 29-game winning streak. Lawrence is 25-0 as a starting quarterback. Clemson has national championship game experience, but LSU is basically playing the game in its back yard.

So, who ya got? I could “gamecock” out and pick the Tigers to win, but that is way overused. I’ll be transparent. I will be pulling for LSU, but I think Clemson will win. Why? Mostly because I don’t want them to.

We invite you to participate in our News Reporter Sports Facebook page poll to give us your pick to win. Not who you want to win, but which team you think will win. For most people it is likely one and the same.

Geaux Tigers! Roll Tide!
