Thursday morning the Wolfpack Optimist Sports Association of Whiteville announced the cancellation of the 2020 Wolfpack Optimist Dixie Your season. The following statement was posted on the Wolfpack Optimist Sports Association Facebook page.
“It is with great sadness that the 2020 Wolfpack Optimist Dixie Youth Baseball season has been cancelled. With the uncertainty of the future and the restrictions that have been put in place, we as a board felt like the logistics and the anticipated lack of participation of the players and volunteers, not just in our league, but in all of North Carolina Dixie Youth baseball, is just too much to overcome. We encourage the kids to take this time to continue to practice to get better and to look for other opportunities to play this summer. However, understand that Wolfpack Optimist is committed to coming back stronger than ever next season and making Whiteville Dixie Youth baseball the best it can be. If you have any questions or concerns, please send us a private message so we can discuss. Also, keep on the lookout for our summer workouts that we hope to begin sometime in the weeks ahead. Thanks so much for all the support you give to these kids and our organization and we will continue to do our part in helping to enhance and develop the youth in our community.”
Recent guidelines issued by the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services were referenced in a recent article https://nrcolumbus.com/frank-thoughts-on-resumption-of-practice-and-play/. The questions then were and still remain, “Are the ‘hoops’ required to jump through feasible and even possible for some organizations to implement in order to play part of a season?”
No doubt, this is a MAJOR disappointment to youth and adults. However, the group making this decision are some of the biggest stakeholders.
